Copy Kate’s Style
There are so many patterns out there just waiting to be discovered. Okay, let’s be honest here…I collect patterns and there is nothing wrong with that. (At least that’s what I keep telling my husband.) There is just something about the jolt of inspiration you get when you find “the perfect pattern,” that is so addicting.
This week’s post has been inspired by a pin that I found on Pinterest from Style Arc. Where they have matched up patterns that they have designed to the outfits the Duchess of Cambridge wore on her Australian tour.

This week, I am going to take you through several different Simplicity brand patterns that I have found to be either good “RepliKates” or they remind me of something that Kate has worn in the past. I have yet to go through the entire Simplicity website but I also didn’t want to make this post a novel so we shall go from there. So grab that cup of tea or coffee and let’s begin this exploration.
Pattern number one is Simplicity 1421. It is a crisp simple blazer that just has that Duchess vibe.
Kate just loves dressing things up a little with a simple, classic, navy colored blazer and really who can blame her? It makes any outfit look polished and professional.
Simplicity 1254 reminds me of this elegant gray jacket that I have seen on the Duchess in the past. Although the jacket Kate wore was double breasted and was more of the coat dress style, I think that with the right alterations you could easily make your own version or make a pretty close RepliKate.
This pattern also reminds me of another elegant coat that she wore a couple winters back and I am still on the hunt for that particular item.
8055 reminds me of some of pregnant Kate as this is not a form fitting frock or jacket however it still hints at a silhouette.
Wrap C from New Look Pattern 6396 reminds me of that one time Kate stepped out to go grocery shopping while covering up her baby bump. It looks cute and totally comfortable.
This top reminds me of the Pink ensemble from LK Bennet that she wore during her Australian tour.
The shirt dress that I have been dying to make! There’s a pattern for that! Simplicity 8014 pattern A.
Oh and by the way! I would love a pair of those shoes please!!
For my girls with more curves, Dress B in Burda Style pattern 6676 is a perfect representation of Kate’s blue lace dress.
Burda Style patter 6680 dress B is also a good representation of the silhouette for a number of Kate’s favorite dresses. Also princess seams looks great on anyone. Also you could easily change the neckline and sleeve length to make several different variations.
New Look pattern 6447, dress A is almost a dead ringer for the blue and coral dress that the Duchess wore to the Queen’s 90th birthday lunch. If you’re looking to completely copy this look you would need to lengthen the sleeves and widen the waist accent.
Finally, this last pattern is more of a Kate inspiration from all of the fun, edgy, gala dresses she has worn in the past.
I could go on and on for weeks about all of these different dresses, jackets, and tops, OH MY! However I leave you with these beautiful finds as I am off to decide what patterns to purchase and begin the hunt for the perfect fabric. Oh and don’t think I have forgotten about that hiking shirt. I have picked up some linen from JoAnn’s for my first attempt and will begin shortly.
