Monthly Musing

There have been so many things happening in the month of March. I’ve discovered a ton of new patters, unusual sewing room gadgets and more. I hope you enjoy my little monthly round up of everything. Let me know if you would like to see more Monthly Musings in the comments below.

Latest Sewing Finds

Amazon: Gutermann Jean thread and Top Stitching Jean Thread – Such a hard to find item at JoAnn’s

Amazon: 1/4″ Clear elastic – I have looked freaking high and low for this stuff at my local JoAnn’s and found nothing. So glad to have found it on Amazon.

Tilly and the Buttons Stretch! – Released 3/7/18 in the UK, will be releasing from Amazon in the US on 3/20/18. Note: Mine literally shipped this morning and I cannot wait

Inspiration and New Sewing Patterns

Seamwork Magazine released the Kimmy Dress and the Audrey Jacket, I am itching just to find the right material to make this out fit combo. Honestly have not been this excited about a Seamwork Pattern in a while.

This Goheen designs, Inara Robe, has given me all the inspiration for my Suki Kimono that I’ve been planning on making this year.

Metallic Sasha Trousers for holiday season, yes I’m already starting to think about my holiday outfits for this year.

Excited about this new bralette pattern and kit from Madalynne. I’ve been wanting to make my own bra for a while now and I have my eye on this particular kit.

Ida Clutch caught my eye over on Instagram and I think it would be really neat to make one. You can get the free pattern here.

Après Ski Sweat Shirt is another Instagram find that really caught my attention. It’s a great classy take on a simple sweat shirt. I may just add it to my make list.

Things Happening in the Sewing Community

There are a few challenges happening during the month of March.

#MarchMeettheMaker2018

“#MarchMeetTheMaker is an Instagram challenge that takes place throughout the whole of March. I set a theme for each day (these are released in advance so people can plan ahead) and then designer makers create a post about themselves and their business based on that theme. They then post it on Instagram with the hashtag #MarchMeetTheMaker and that’s it! It’s really easy to take part in.” – Joanne

#alittlelawnparty

This challenge will run from March 15, 2018 to May 15, 2018. The idea is to celebrate and welcome the spring season with a handmade wardrobe. The creators of this challenge love cotton lawn and the spring like feel it gives to the outfits that are made from it. During the challenge you can use any fabrics that scream spring. I already have my spring dress chosen and I can’t wait to share it with you.

“So, the challenge is to simply make a garment that is celebrating spring, this could be through the style of garment, the fabric, the colours, the print/pattern and then share it using the #alittlelawnparty.” – Melanie Thorley (Read more about the challenge here)

#RoscoeMonth

During the month of  March Kelli, the founder of True Bias, is focusing on five different variations of her Roscoe blouse. Each week during the month of March she will post a different variation of her design. Also during this month you can purchase the pattern for 20% off using the code ROSCOEMONTH.

I’ve already picked up my pattern and material, now it’s just time to get to the sewing table.

You can view Kelli’s first Roscoe version here

Sewing Room Upgrade

Ikea motorized standing desk frame. We were able to just pick up the frame for my existing table in my sewing room. There were some minor adjustments to the table top that needed to be done, like drilling holes. But no more sore back!!

Unusual Items I’ve Discovered for Sewing

I found these magnetic shop bowls that are meant to hold screws, bolts, etc. in shops (aka my husbands garage) and they work so well for holding my pins, tiny scissors, needles, and anything else that is small and made of metal. The earth magnets at the bottom of the bowls are really strong and will stick to your ironing board if you need something to hold your pins. I also keep it by my sewing machine to catch the pins as I sew.

These are the ones that I have:

Grizzly – These are on close out and at a great price (I maybe picking up another)

Harbor Freight – You can also get one for free with any purchase using this coupon

Northern Tool – There is also a magnetic tool tray set you could pick up as well here
